Argento Finishes One Mother Of A Trilogy

Dario Argento’s third and final picture in his Mother Trilogy, MOTHER OF TEARS, is set to reach a larger US audience with a June 6 DVD release. The Witches trilogy began with SUSPIRIA in 1977 and was followed by INFERNO IN 1980. After a 27-yearlong wait, Argento brings us the final chapter. This time an art student, Sarah Mandy, played by Argento's own beautiful daughter Asia, unwittingly releases the demonic power of the most powerful witch, the Mother Of Tears. Before you know it, violence, mass suicides and chaos erupts all over Rome, not to mention, psychopathic witches. Sarah must then use her untapped psychic powers to stop the “Mother Of Tears” reign of evil before it’s too late.
The film's screenplay had many drafts over the years and this final version is written by Argento himself with Jase Anderson and Adam Gierasch the writers of Tobe Hopper’s underrated TOOLBOX MURDERS. I doubt there are many horror fans who haven't seen SUSPIRIA but for those who have not I highly recommend getting all three DVD's this June and enjoying a night of true Italian horror.

GORDON DANGLES ANOTHER MORSEL OF WEST TO TEMPT US

It seems its been forever that Stuart Gordon has been promising to not only bring us another Re-Animator sequel, but also direct it. The project is said to be called HOUSE OF RE-ANIMATOR. All the hints have pointed to a plot involving Dr. West being brought to the White House. Now it seems the wonderful William H. Macy is going to play the President. According to Macy in an interview he gave to Fearnet.com "He wants me to play George Bush, who’s dead, but still president. It’s a little like life, isn’t it? " Gordon is currently working on another Lovecraft project and no word yet on when this might go into production. Perhaps Gordon is waiting for you know who to vacate and a friendlier administartion to take over to avoid being carried of by the Men In Black.

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA

The official website for Darren Lynn Bousman's unconventional project, Repo! The Genetic Opera is up today with lots of musical clips, and background on the world and characters the film revolves around. Originaly created for the stage by Darren Smith and Terrance Zdunich who now along with Bousman, also the director of the stage version, they are bringing it to the big screen. If you haven't heard about the project it is the first slasher horror musical as far as anyone seems to know. Which of course has made the critics already dislike it, and Paris Hilton is in it which has now made everyone hate it. I am going to stay open minded and view it without expectations and maybe I'll be surprised. Although Hilton is the only one anyone is talking about she is not the lead and the ensemble also includes Anthony Head and Sarah Brightman. I love Anthony Head like any fan of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series and he has a great voice and impressive background in London's musical theatre. As you'll see at the site the plot is set in the not-so-distant future when an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet, scientists gear for a massive organ harvest. A biotech giant comes up with easy organ payment plans, but all financed organs are subject to legal default, including repossession at the hands of repo men. Odd definitely but I do give Bousman credit for thinking outside the box having the guts to follow through. Check it out and let me know what you think.
